Skin Care Routine Summer 2016

Processed with VSCO

Happy Fourth of July weekend my Bookish Babes! It’s time for another skincare update! My regimen tends to shift slightly from season to season and I like to share the updates with you guys along with mini reviews of the products. I hope you find these type of posts helpful and that you share your favorite skincare products in the comments!

I’m a morning shower gal, so after jumping out of the shower I gently cleanse my face with Thayers Alcohol-Free Witch Hazel with Organic Aloe Vera Formula Toner, Unscented on a cotton ball. I found that using the clarisonic both morning and night was starting to become too harsh on my skin so I skip that step now.

I follow up the toner with ALPHA SKINCARE Rejuvenating Serum. This product has helped so much my acne and scarring, it took a few months to see full results (this product claims to take some time for the benefits to show) and now my skin can’t live without it.

My current eye cream of choice is the e.l.f. Illuminating Eye Cream which does moisturize well, but it doesn’t do a whole lot for my fine lines. Send any suggestions you have my way, I’m looking to pick up a different brand once this jar runs out.

For added hydration I use the DR. CARVER MIRACLE REPAIR SERUM before applying my sunscreen. This is a light moisturizing serum that claims to reduce redness and it does help calm down active breakouts when I have them.

As a pale Irish girl I never leave home without sunscreen. My current pick is Earth Science Almond-Aloe Facial Moisturizer, SPF 15+. This product works perfectly fine, but I do find it a bit too greasy for my liking. I have fairly oily skin and I’m on the hunt for a good daily sunscreen that works well under makeup without making me extra oily.

Makeup Removal

On days that I wear makeup I tend to take it off as soon as I know I’m in for the night. I much prefer cleansing oils for makeup removal, but I’m currently looking for a new one since the Eclos Cleansing Oil seems to have been discontinued. Why do companies do this to us?? In the meantime I start by removing the bulk of my makeup with any makeup cleansing wipe that I have at the moment, right now I’m using the CVS facial cleansing wipes.

Then I go in with the Thayers toner to remove any remaining makeup. This ensures that I’m not leaving anything on my face to clog my pores.

These steps tend to dry out my skin a bit so I use the Dr. Carver serum to add back in some light hydration.

I start off my evening routine with the Clarisonic Mia, using the Deep Pore Cleansing Brush Head and CETAPHIL Daily Face Cleanser. I really do love my clarisonic, it helps exfoliate my skin and get everything from the day off my face. The Cetaphil cleanser has worked just fine, but it isn’t my absolute favorite. My main complaint with this cleanser is the smell, it’s just a bit unpleasant to me.

I again use the Alpha Skincare serum, after experimenting over the past few months using this product twice a day works best for my skin.

My day and night eye cream is the same so I pat on the e.l.f. illuminating eye cream after my serum has sunk in.

At the moment my nighttime moisturizer of choice is CERAVE Facial Moisturizing Lotion PM. This is a great evening moisturizer without being too thick and I love that it has a pump!

If I have any acne spots (which I usually do…acne prone skin problems) I apply the CLEAN & CLEAR Advantage Acne Spot Treatment. I always wake up in the morning with my breakouts a little less angry when using this product, is also helps me not mess with any painful spots.

Face Mask

The Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay mixed with apple cider vinegar has been my go to face mask for over a year. This works wonders on acne prone/oily skin! It does a great job of pulling stuff out of my pores and the apple cider vinegar helps reduce acne scarring. This does dry my skin out so I make sure to moisturize REALLY well after using this. I currently use this mask about once a week.

That wraps up my skincare routine at the moment. Share in the comments your favorite skincare items, I’m always looking for new holy grails!
