Happy Wednesday Bookish Babes! A few weeks ago I posted a first impressions of the June Sephora Play Box and now that I’ve had some time to test the products I wanted to post a full review.
Let’s start with Bumble and bumble Don’t Blow It. The first time I tried this I really didn’t like it, I don’t usually love my shoulder length haircut when it is air dried. However, I was in desperate need of a haircut and I think that was contributing to my dislike of this product. The second time using this (post haircut) I actually really liked it! It creates a more messy and laid back style that is great for the weekends and I love that I don’t need to use any heat styling products with it. Would I buy the full size? Probably not…this bad boy is $31 for 5 oz and I just can’t bring myself to spend that much on a hair product. However, I would gladly accept it as a gift, or buy it on super sale!
Next up is a skincare item – tarte Tarteguard 30 Sunscreen Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 30. I’ve already used up this whole bottle and I did really enjoy it. Most daily moisturizers I use only have SPF 15, so I love that this had an SPF of 30. I found this did not make my skin greasy and it worked well under makeup. Although, just like the hair product I think this one is just too expensive to buy the full size. $32 for 1.7 oz would add up quickly with how much my pale self relies on sunscreen.
Time for some makeup items! bareMinerals bareSkin® Sheer Sun™ Serum Bronzer is like nothing I have ever tried before. I just started using bronzer this past year and have only purchased powders so far. I found this easiest to use with the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush since it is a bit more tapered in the center. I would dab a few drops of the serum bronzer onto the back of my hand and then pick it up with the brush for application. This worked great as a base for powder bronzer, but I didn’t like it by itself. It’s possible my inexperience with liquid/cream bronzer was to blame, but I just couldn’t get as flawless of an effect without powder over top. I wouldn’t buy the full size of this ($28 for 1 oz), but it has made me eager to try other cheek products that aren’t powder.
The BECCA Backlight Priming Filter was definitely what I was most excited to try in this box, my only hesitation was that the glow from this would make my skin look too oily. This primer gives a very subtle glow to the skin, which I really enjoyed paired with my more matte foundations (specifically the Loreal Pro Matte). I find that matte foundation can make my skin look a bit flat, and this primer helped to give my face more life and look more skin like. I did find that this made me look a little oily on very hot days (which is every day in Texas right now), but mainly in my T-zone. After avoiding placing this in my oily areas I really enjoyed how this made my skin look throughout the day. Once again, this is an expensive item at $38 for 1 oz, so I probably wouldn’t buy this at full price. Even though I think this is a great product I don’t find it to be necessary for my collection.
Most of the items in this box I really enjoyed, however the Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Lengthening & Volumizing Mascara was disappointing for me. This a very wet mascara formula that puts way too much gunk on my lashes, making them clump. I also did not like the design of the wand, there is a very spiky part at the end of it and I kept getting it all over my skin. After having it open for 2 weeks the formula did dry up a bit and I do enjoy it more now. I probably wouldn’t buy this, as I MUCH prefer the roller lash mascara over this one.
Shall we end on a high note? I LOVE the Tocca Florence perfume sample they sent in this box. The musk combined with floral notes makes this a perfect blend for me. I would most definitely buy a full size of this and I plan on doing so in the future.
